Lamphere Schools is thrilled to announce that Shannon Graham has been honored as the 2023-2024 Oakland County Outstanding High School Teacher of the Year. With over 20 years of dedicated service in the field of education, Graham joined the Lamphere family at the beginning of the 2021-22 school year, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a passion for teaching.
Throughout her time at Lamphere, Graham has made a profound impact on both students and colleagues alike. Teaching a diverse range of subjects including Marketing, Business Management and Technology, Web Design, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, and Business Law, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to fostering academic excellence and personal growth among her students.
One of Graham's notable achievements includes the establishment of Lamphere High School's inaugural DECA chapter, which saw remarkable success in its very first year. Under her guidance, the chapter flourished with 55 members, eight of whom advanced to state championships. This year, the chapter expanded to 76 members, with 14 students earning the opportunity to compete at the state level.
Anthony Goatley, a student whose life has been positively impacted by Graham's mentorship, reflects on her influence: "Mrs. Graham has made a lasting and significant impact on my educational journey. Giving me the opportunities to experience different international cultures, different leadership training, and approaches, and a wide variety of educational experiences."
Marjorie Alexander, CTE Department Chair at Lamphere High School, praises Mrs. Graham's dedication and innovative teaching methods: "Shannon's dedication, innovation, and commitment to student success make her an ideal candidate for the Oakland County High School Teacher of the Year. Her contributions will continue to inspire and shape the future leaders who pass through her classroom."
Parent Erin Ferris shares her appreciation for Mrs. Graham's transformative role in her daughter's education: "Children learn certain skills at home, but their teachers expose them to so much more. Teachers are the ones who inspire, cheer, and push them to the next level. Shannon Graham has done that and more to make my daughter into the young adult I want her to be."
Today, we had the honor of surprising Mrs. Shannon Graham in her classroom. Patricia Chinn, Supervisor of School Culture and Climate from Oakland Schools, presented her with the award, while Rodney Thomas, Lamphere High School Principal, congratulated her with a special gift from the district. This recognition serves as a testament to Graham's outstanding contributions to the field of education and her unwavering dedication to empowering the next generation of leaders.
