The English department is dedicated to helping our students grow as readers, writers, and critical thinkers. Students have diverse educational experiences with literature ranging from classical literature to high interest young adult literature. Our reading program is focused on exposing our students to a wide variety of reading material that will help them understand themselves and the world around them. Additionally, we believe in the power of literature to help our students become more empathetic and empowered to impact the world in positive ways. In addition to a well-rounded reading program, our students receive instruction in narrative, informational, and argument writing along with preparation for the SAT’s rhetorical analysis essay. Our department believes that through opportunities to experience reading, writing, and speaking in our offered ELA courses, students receive the building blocks for success at the next level, be it a four year university, community college, trade school, the work force, or the military.

The English department offers students a four year sequence of grade level and Honors courses. Additionally, students have the opportunity to earn college credit through our two Advanced Placement courses offered at the 11th and 12th grade level.
